The pre-Hispanic civilizations of Mesoamerica wrote their history on a paper called “amate”. This was done through a delicate procedure that involved the treatment of various tree barks and resulted in a fine and resistant fiber of golden tones that was painstakingly presented in folded sheets. The transformation from rough, rigid wood into smooth, malleable amate paper inspired us to design this piece.
