Kaori Green Dish
Kaori pairs a smoked ceramic center with a tightly woven band of natural fiber around the rim, a combination of clay and basketry that's distinctive to her practice. The smoking process gives the ceramic center a deep, variable grey-green tone, while the woven surround brings in warmth and texture that pure ceramic couldn't achieve alone. At nine inches across and low to the table, the dish works well as a catchall for keys or small objects, or simply displayed for the contrast between its two materials. It's a quietly earthy piece that reads as considered rather than rustic.
